May 5 Third day in Novosibirsk

We started the day under a grey sky, with most of the streets around the hotel closed. After some investigation we found out that the military were rehearsing for the parade of victory day. Every year,     the 9th of May in Russia they commemorate the end of the Great Patriotic War (World War 2) and it’s a big deal. At 10 am the first round of rehearsal started with military band, parade, big guns show off, etc. After everyone had paraded, corrections were issued and they started all over again.  I hope the police improved their marching as it was below par compared to the rest. We decided to move on, so we cannot comment on the improvements.

For the rest of day we continued shopping gear and provisions for the trip, including flares to scare bears (no, really we need them if we get lost)! Now we hopefully have everything we need, we just need to make sure we manage to fit everything in the car

If the UAZ Patriot is good enough for the military, it will probably be good enough for us
