June 12 Shushensky Bor national park and Borus

We were lucky, today was a day with sunshine - a respite from rainy/gloomy days that preceded and will be following. It's as if the weather read our itinerary and decided to grant us good weather.

As you remember, in May we were in Altai mountains. Now we are in Sayan mountains. Here in Cheryomushki, there is a nature reserve, a place where Borus mountain is located. Although I planned to hike the mountain, the nature reserve inspector gave us several facts that made us think twice before we do so. In most cases, hikers arrive to the mountain base and stay overnight in a tent. Some manage to climb the mountain in one day, but that would require a very early start. The climb would be full of massive boulders - not an easy walk. Hence, we decided to take it easy and only visit a waterfall (which did not have much water), the Borus base (almost: we were aiming Venezia Lake, but didn't get there as we were told it was frozen, so we only arrived to the Venezia Valley), and a fire watch tower as a view point. That kept us occupied for the whole day and served as a good exercise. On our way, we met a very friendly pika (пищуха) that gracefully agreed to pose for Pablo's photos. Although we didn't make it to the Borus top, the views from its base were still amazing.
